The color palette of the Viktor&Rolf Couture Spring/Summer 2023 Collection, « Late Stage Capitalism Waltz », brings to mind François Boucher’s masterpieces.
Other François Boucher-inspired pieces : Vivienne Westwood Autumn/Winter 1990-1991 (the « Portrait » Collection, which had been influenced by the oil paintings from the Wallace Collection, highlighted the iconic corset which reproduced François Boucher’s « Daphnis and Chloe » ; the English fashion designer revisited this print in her Autumn/Winter 2021-2022 Collection).
She had also presented pieces that replicated François Boucher’s « Hercules and Omphale » for Spring/Summer 1993 (this painting also featured in the Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood Spring/Summer 2024 Collection).
Furthermore, the Marquise de Pompadour’s crumpled silk dress, in François Boucher’s painting entitled « Portrait of Madame de Pompadour », was reinterpreted by Dame Vivienne Isabel Westwood in her « Anglophilia » Autumn/Winter 2003-2004 Collection.
